Erregai fosilen errekuntzek eragindako klima aldaketa pairatzea da egungo gizartearen erronka nagusietariko bat. Errekuntza hauek isuritako berotegi-efektuko gasen artean ugariena karbono dioxidoa (CO2) da, hauen % 75 inguru.
